As a student of University Centre Shrewsbury, you will be provided with a range of opportunities to help gain the experience, skills and knowledge needed to succeed during your time with us, and beyond.

The S:PEAR (Skills: Professional, Entrepreneurial, Academic, Research) programme

A core weekly programme, the S:PEAR programme is designed to enhance your future career by identifying the skills, knowledge and behaviours employers value. Working with support services such as Careers and Employability, and Student Support, the S:PEAR team aims to provide you with a range of expert sessions, and tailored support and guidance appropriate to your level of study.

Run as a workshop, and through experiences such as volunteering, job shadowing, work-based learning, and live projects; S:PEAR aims to develop skills that are effective in the workplace or for further postgraduate study.

Student Involvement

Workshops are timetabled sympathetically around your academic programme timetable, and each weekly workshop lasts about 2 hours.  The focus of student involvement revolves around four key themes: Learning about myself; Working with others; Getting out and about; and Thinking outside the box.

Additional Costs associated to S:PEAR activities

The University does not make any charge for engagement in this training; however, you may have an opportunity to gain professional body certification through institutes such as the Institute of Leadership & Management, (ILM) Chartered Management Institute (CMI), PRINCE2 and others, where costs may be associated.
