‘Senior Social Change Brokers’ sought for new UCS initiative

Thursday, February 2, 2017

An event taking place at University Centre Shrewsbury on Wednesday, February 8 is aiming to harness the skills and experience of older people in order to effect social change in local communities. The workshop, which runs from 9am until 2pm, is for those aged 50 and over who are able to invest time in an unpaid but rewarding challenge.

Organiser Jon Britten, UCS Head of Academic Support, said: “We’re looking for people who want to help create improvements in the community, in a way that has never been done before. We want to make the use of the talents and experience of older people throughout the county, to work alongside other local groups based in Europe.”

The workshop will enable participants to:

  • find out more about the project;
  • network with like-minded individuals;
  • discover new opportunities;
  • learn something about capacity building for social change;
  • tap into new resources.

At the end of the workshop, participants may become Senior Social Change Brokers and work with UCS for the next 18 months.

“We are looking to recruit a number of Senior Social Change Brokers from communities across Shropshire, so whether you’ve already expressed an interest or you’re just curious and want to know more, you are welcome to attend,” said Mr Britten. “There’s the potential for expenses-paid European travel too!”

Please register by emailing sse@chester.ac.uk; lunch and refreshments will be provided.
