Due to growing competition in the job market, gaining a degree nowadays is not always enough to get you where you want to go.
In terms of bolstering your CV, often it is the experiences and extra activities you have done whilst studying for your degree that grab a potential employer’s attention.
One way that University Centre Shrewsbury helps students to do this is through a scheme run in conjunction with the University of Chester - the Chester Difference Award - which is available to Shrewsbury students.
Essentially, this award encourages students to get involved in as many activities as they can to earn points towards the award. Points can be earned by volunteering, joining a club or society, becoming a student ambassador, attending EYE training, and other engaging opportunities such as having a part-time job.
Many students who decide to engage with the scheme feel it increases their experiences, offers new challenges and makes them more employable in the future. Plus, there are loads of ways to achieve points (you only need ten to achieve the first awards) you have fun, and you make lots of new friends. What’s not to like!
