Thought about studying again after time out of education, but don’t know where to begin? An event at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS) will share information, advice and guidance on the options available.

The Return to Learning Event is aimed at people who are 21 and above, considering either full-time or part-time opportunities. The event takes place at Guildhall, UCS’s learning and research base, on Thursday June 7, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Staff from a variety of departments and current mature students will be on hand to answer any queries people may have, discuss the types of courses and other choices on offer, the steps to get started, and the support available throughout, including if and how people might get help to finance their studies.

Vicki Silver, Senior Lecturer at UCS said: “We have organised this informal event for people over 21 who want to explore learning opportunities in higher education.

“A range of information, advice and guidance will be available, on aspects from finance and how to apply, to study skills and learning support.

“People may be worried about the processes, or managing learning after a break or alongside other commitments, but this is a chance to have the options explained and see the ways you can achieve a return to studying.”

Andrea MacDonald, a mature UCS English undergraduate student, said: “I wanted to improve my prospects by getting a degree - and there is a lot of help for me as a full-time student with children.

“It’s great for me to be able to study for an undergraduate course right here in Shrewsbury - it’s a gift. I’m looking forward to meeting other prospective mature students on June 7, and sharing my experience.”

People will also have the opportunity to talk to colleagues from Shrewsbury Colleges Group at the event about their part-time and full-time courses available at all levels as well as the range of apprenticeships on offer.
