Our upcoming Visit Days are the perfect chance to have a look around University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS), learn more about your course and chat to current students and academics about life at UCS. We’re always keen for our visitors to see as much as they can whilst they’re with us, whether that’s taking a tour of our facilities on campus, viewing the partnership accommodation at Mardol House, or exploring Shrewsbury town itself. If you’re coming from further afield, it’s also a fantastic opportunity to spend some time in the lovely town of Shrewsbury and learn a bit more about what this wonderful place has to offer.

Choosing a university is a big decision and it’s important to consider a number of factors alongside your course. One of the most crucial things to think about is the town or city you’re actually going to be studying in and calling home. So, if you get the chance to spend some time in Shrewsbury and experience what this unique town is like first-hand you’ll have a better chance at deciding if it’s for you.

If you haven’t paid us a visit yet, let us set the scene… Shrewsbury is a picturesque, medieval market town set amongst the stunning Shropshire Hills and scooped up by the River Severn. With around 660 black and white Tudor buildings, cobbled streets and hidden passageways, there is an enigmatic feel to the town that is unrivalled.

A thriving hub for local, independent businesses, alongside many familiar big chain names, Shrewsbury is home to an array of unique shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants that you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re looking to grab a coffee or sit down and dig into a pizza, there really is something for everyone. It’s also worth browsing the Market Hall, recently a finalist in ‘Britain’s Favourite Market’. Since 1965 it has been home to many local traders, offering fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and poultry, fresh fish, delicatessen, books, antiques, collectables and contemporary arts and crafts to name a few.

Away from shopping, there’s plenty to see and do. You could visit much of the stunning architecture in the form of castles, cathedrals and churches, or go for a stroll through the glorious, sprawling Quarry Park. The Old Market Hall shows the best in Hollywood blockbusters and underrated independent movies in a charming cinema space, the Museum and Art Gallery hosts some fascinating exhibitions and Theatre Severn regularly has shows from big name stand-up comedians and well-loved musicals.

All this is just a flavour of what you can see and do whilst visiting Shrewsbury. So, if you haven’t already booked yourself onto one of our Visit Days, make sure you don’t miss your chance to come and see us over the next couple of months. Our Visit Days are on Saturday 17th March and Saturday 21st April.
